Why Is It Called a "Top Case" Replacement?
On every modern MacBook, the keyboard is permanently built into the aluminum top case, the entire upper chassis that includes the keyboard, trackpad, battery, and speakers. Apple designed it this way for thinness, but it means a keyboard fix requires swapping the whole assembly.
The upside? When you get a top case replacement, you're getting a brand new keyboard, trackpad, battery, AND speakers all at once. It's essentially a refresh of everything you touch and hear.

Your MacBook is fully disassembled, logic board, display, SSD, and all cables are carefully removed from the old top case and transferred to the new one.
