The MacBook Pro 15-Inch, A Legendary Workhorse
For seven years (2012-2019), the MacBook Pro 15-inch was Apple's flagship laptop for professionals. It was the machine of choice for filmmakers, photographers, software engineers, music producers, and scientists who needed maximum performance in a portable form factor. The 2015 model in particular is still widely regarded as one of the best laptops Apple ever made.
At WarriorMac, we have repaired thousands of MacBook Pro 15-inch units across every generation. While Apple has discontinued the 15-inch and moved to the 16-inch form factor, we continue to fully support every 15-inch model with genuine parts, component-level board repair, and the same level of expertise we have provided for over 20 years.
Whether your 2012 Retina has a GPU failure, your 2015 has a swollen battery, or your 2018 Touch Bar has butterfly keyboard problems, we have the parts, the schematics, and the experience to fix it. Every repair includes free diagnostics and our 1-year warranty.

Discrete GPU Repair, Our 15-Inch Specialty
The MacBook Pro 15-inch models from 2012-2019 all feature discrete GPUs from NVIDIA (2012-2014) and AMD (2015-2019) alongside Intel integrated graphics. These dedicated graphics processors handle demanding tasks like video editing, 3D rendering, and gaming, but they are also the most failure-prone component on the board.
GPU failures manifest as screen artifacts, random crashes, no display output, or a Mac that will not boot past the Apple logo. Apple and most shops quote $600-$1,300 for a full logic board replacement. At WarriorMac, we perform GPU-level repair including reballing, chip replacement, and power rail diagnosis to fix the problem at a fraction of that cost.
NVIDIA GT 650M/750M/GT 850M GPU reballing and replacement
AMD Radeon Pro 450/455/460/555/560 repair
GPU switching logic repair for graphics switching failures
VRAM failure diagnosis and chip-level replacement
Board-level diagnostics with schematics and thermal imaging
Butterfly Keyboard and Flexgate Experts
The 2016-2019 MacBook Pro 15-inch models shipped with Apple's controversial butterfly keyboard mechanism. While thinner than the previous scissor-switch design, the butterfly keyboard is notorious for keys that stick, stop responding, type double characters, or feel crunchy. A single speck of dust can disable an entire key.
These same models also suffer from "Flexgate," a display cable design flaw where the backlight cable is too short and wears out from repeated opening and closing. Symptoms include a "stage lighting" effect at the bottom of the display, a display that only works at certain angles, or complete backlight failure. We repair both issues with genuine Apple parts and proven techniques.

Common MacBook Pro 15-Inch Problems We Fix Daily
The MacBook Pro 15-inch Retina lineup spans eight years of Apple engineering, from the groundbreaking 2012 Retina display to the final 2019 model. Each generation has its own set of known issues and failure points. Here are the problems we see most frequently.
GPU Failures on 2012-2015 Models
The discrete NVIDIA and early AMD GPUs in the 2012-2015 MacBook Pro 15-inch are the single most common failure point on these machines. Symptoms include screen artifacts (colored lines, distorted graphics, checkerboard patterns), random kernel panics and crashes during graphics-intensive tasks, no display output even though the Mac chimes, and a Mac that boots to a black screen or gets stuck on the Apple logo. These GPU failures are caused by solder joint degradation from thermal cycling. The GPU chip heats and cools thousands of times over years of use, eventually causing micro-fractures in the solder connections. We perform GPU reballing (removing and re-soldering the GPU chip) and, when necessary, full GPU chip replacement. This is a board-level repair that requires specialized equipment and extensive experience.
The Butterfly Keyboard Epidemic (2016-2019)
Apple's butterfly keyboard mechanism, used on the 2016-2019 MacBook Pro 15-inch, is one of the most failure-prone components in MacBook history. The ultra-thin key mechanism is so sensitive that a single grain of sand or speck of dust can disable a key entirely. Common symptoms include keys that stick or feel crunchy, keys that do not register at all, keys that type double or triple characters, and uneven key travel across the keyboard. The only permanent fix is a full top case replacement, which includes a new keyboard, battery, trackpad, and speakers. We use genuine Apple top cases to ensure your keyboard performs like new.
Flexgate Display Cable Failure (2016-2019)
The 2016-2019 MacBook Pro 15-inch models use a display flex cable that is routed over the display hinge. Over time, the repeated opening and closing of the lid wears through the cable, causing progressive backlight failure. Early symptoms include a "stage lighting" effect (bright spots at the bottom of the display), followed by the display only working at certain lid angles, and eventually complete backlight failure while the display content itself is still visible under bright light. We repair and replace the Flexgate display cable, often saving you the cost of a full display assembly replacement.
Battery Swelling on Aging Models
After 5-8 years of use, many MacBook Pro 15-inch batteries begin to swell. The 2012-2015 models are especially prone to this issue now, as their batteries have far exceeded their expected lifespan. A swollen battery can warp the bottom case, make the trackpad stiff or unresponsive, and in severe cases crack the display from internal pressure. If your MacBook Pro 15-inch trackpad feels different, if the laptop does not sit flat on a desk, or if the bottom case looks warped, bring it in immediately. We replace batteries with genuine Apple cells and inspect for any secondary damage caused by the swelling.
Anti-Reflective Coating Delamination
The 2012-2015 MacBook Pro 15-inch models are subject to anti-reflective coating delamination, sometimes called "Staingate." The anti-reflective coating on the display glass breaks down over time, leaving cloudy, patchy, or smeared areas on the screen. While Apple ran a repair program for affected models, that program has long since expired. We replace affected displays with genuine Apple panels that have a fresh anti-reflective coating, restoring crystal-clear clarity to your Retina display.
