What Affects the Cost

Type of liquid

Water is least corrosive. Coffee and sugary drinks leave behind conductive residues that cause more extensive damage. Alcohol is the most corrosive. The liquid type significantly affects repair complexity.

Time since the spill

A board treated within 24-48 hours has far less corrosion than one left for weeks. The longer corrosion spreads, the more components need replacement and the higher the cost.

Whether the Mac was powered on during the spill

A powered-on Mac sustains immediate short-circuit damage in addition to corrosion. A Mac that was off or was shut off immediately typically has less component damage.

Amount and location of liquid

A small splash that reached only the keyboard area costs less to repair than a large spill that saturated the entire logic board.

WarriorMac vs. Apple Store

Apple does not repair liquid-damaged logic boards, they replace the entire board at $600-$1,500+, plus charge for any other damaged components (keyboard, battery). Apple's liquid damage repair bills frequently exceed $1,000. WarriorMac's component-level approach addresses only what is actually damaged.

The first hour decides most of the cost

Shut the Mac down immediately by holding the power button for ten seconds. Do not press it again to see if it still works, because every attempt to power on pushes current through wet traces and turns a cleanable board into a burned one. Unplug the charger and leave it unplugged.

Stand the machine upside down in a tent shape so gravity pulls the liquid back out through the keyboard rather than down onto the logic board. Do not use rice, which does nothing for liquid already inside the machine and leaves starch dust behind. Do not use a hairdryer, which drives moisture deeper and can warp the display bonding.

Then bring it in as fast as you can. Corrosion is an ongoing chemical reaction, and the difference between a same-day ultrasonic clean and a machine that sat in a drawer for two weeks is very often the difference between a cleaning bill and a board replacement.

What liquid damage service actually involves

The machine is fully stripped, the board is removed and inspected under a microscope, and the board goes through an ultrasonic clean in a solution that lifts corrosion out from under the chips where a brush cannot reach. Connectors are cleaned individually, and any component that has already corroded through is replaced at that point.

Sugary drinks, salt water and cleaning products are worse than plain water because they leave a conductive residue that keeps bridging circuits after the liquid itself has dried. That is why a coffee with milk and sugar is usually a harder job than a glass of water, even when the volume was smaller.

Because the damage is progressive and hidden, this is the one repair where an exact price cannot be quoted from a photograph. We open it, clean it, test it and then tell you what it needs, and you decide at that point.

Getting the data back

On Intel Macs with a removable SSD the drive can normally be pulled and read on another machine even when the board is beyond saving. On T2 and Apple silicon machines the storage is soldered and encrypted to the Secure Enclave, so the only route to the data is bringing the board back to life long enough to pull it off.

That is why we attempt a board-level repair first on any liquid job where the customer wants their files, rather than going straight to a replacement board. Tell us up front if the data matters and it changes the order we do things in.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to fix a water-damaged MacBook?

At WarriorMac, liquid damage repair ranges from $129 for minor cleaning to $699 for extensive multi-component repair. The exact cost depends on the severity of the corrosion and which components are affected.

Is it worth repairing a water-damaged MacBook?

In most cases, yes. Even a $500 repair on a $2,000+ MacBook is far cheaper than replacement. And unlike Apple's approach, our repair preserves your data. We diagnose for free and give you an honest assessment.

What is your success rate for liquid damage repair?

When we receive a liquid-damaged Mac within 1-2 weeks of the spill, our recovery rate is high. Boards with months of corrosion have a lower but still meaningful success rate. We only charge if we fix it.

My MacBook still works after a spill. Do I still need repair?

Yes, we strongly recommend professional cleaning. Corrosion continues to spread after a spill. Your Mac may work today but fail in days or weeks as corrosion reaches critical components.

Do you repair liquid-damaged keyboards too?

Yes. Liquid damage often affects the keyboard as well as the logic board. We can replace the keyboard/top case as part of the same repair. Combined pricing is more cost-effective than addressing each separately.
